II.3 The Satellite sciences

II.3.1 Synergy with JGO and JEO

  • Take advantage of a complementary payload on the various mission elements (e.g., Radio and Plasma Wave instrument on JMO) to study the local electrodynamic environment of the Galilean moons by planning if possible dual/triple flybys of the moons (multi-point measurements, mainly at Ganymede and Callisto).
  • Take advantage of a complementary payload to study the magnetosphere/moon interactions by observing remotely (UV and Radio emissions) and in-situ (Plasma packages) the auroral footprints (at both ends of the field lines, i.e. in the Jovian atmosphere as well as in the atmospheres of the moons) of the Galilean moons.
  • Provide the magnetospheric context (JMO) from distance (ENA and UV emissions) to better understand the in-situ observations obtained in the vicinity of the Galilean moons by the JGO and JEO.
